Pineapple Comedy Hour
When Gender Stereotypes Collide with Date Night
Our first dinner date was legen – wait for it – dary! Adam is a big fan of the TV show Psych and they sneak in a pineapple several times throughout the series. As a result Adam likes pineapples. Obviously!
The third time we met up, back at the start of our relationship, we went to a small town restaurant. There were a million options on the menu. Something caught Adam’s eye and it was a good one! A fried rice delight with chicken, cashews, and other tasties… all inside a carved out pineapple! Say what?!
The date was a delightful chance to get to know each other better. But something else made this meal extra memorable. When the server delivered the food to the table she was completely convinced that the pineapple meal was for Amanda.
As the plate was set in front Amanda, Adam said, “Oh, um, that’s actually mine.” The server was unconvinced. She laughed and said, “Stop it. You’re too funny.” She paused to consider it. Then started laughing hysterically. She thought it was so funny she went to grab a couple employees to come to the table.
She was laughing so hard as she was telling the others, “Wait, hahahaha, it’s not for her. Ah hahahahaha… it’s… *pause* ...for.. HIM!!! Ah hahahaha.” The others also were busting up laughing. Genuine surprise was on all of their faces. They were so delighted.
Amanda’s meal was coincidentally chicken fried rice but she didn’t order the version in the pineapple. As we ate and enjoyed each other’s company, we agreed our dinners were ridiculously good. It made for quite an enjoyable night. We ended the evening with a beautiful sunset near a breathtaking oak tree.
Adam getting acquainted with his Pineapple & a very pretty sunset.
